Using the mic test & playback
- Press Record and allow microphone access.
- Talk normally for a few seconds and watch the level. Press Stop, or it stops at 30 seconds.
- Play it back. Clear deletes it.
Reading the results
The level bar moves when the microphone picks up sound; if it stays flat, the browser is getting silence. Playback is what your microphone sounds like before a call app processes it. Listen for hiss, clipping on loud words, or dropouts. Call apps add their own noise suppression, so they can sound different.
Fixes
If access is denied, click the permission icon in the address bar and check your OS microphone privacy settings.
If you sound quiet or distorted, set the right default input in your OS, adjust the input level, and keep a steady distance from the mic.
FAQ
Can I hear myself through the microphone?
Yes, after recording. There’s no live monitoring, which avoids feedback through speakers.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It stays in this tab and is gone when you press Clear or reload.
Why does the microphone not work?
Check browser permission, the default input, any mute switch, and whether another app is using the mic.
Can this check my Discord or Zoom microphone?
It checks the same microphone, but those apps can pick a different input and process the sound differently.
Why does my mic sound bad only in calls?
Bluetooth headsets switch to a low-quality call mode, and call apps add noise suppression. Try a wired mic to compare.
