Using the mouse tester
- Point at the test area and press each button once: left, middle, right, then the side buttons.
- Scroll up and down. The wheel readout shows the direction and how many scroll events arrived.
- A button that stays at 0 never reached the browser.
Reading the results
Each counter is a press the page received. Back and forward are often remapped by mouse software or used by the browser, so a 0 there can be a driver setting rather than a fault. The scroll count is events, not physical wheel notches.
Fixes
For a button that won’t click, check the cable or battery, try another USB port, and test on another computer.
If the side buttons do nothing or jump back a page, check your mouse software. Extra buttons are often mapped to keyboard shortcuts.
FAQ
Can this test five mouse buttons?
Yes: left, middle, right, back and forward, as long as the browser receives them. Extra programmable buttons usually arrive as keyboard shortcuts instead.
Why is the middle button not working?
Press the wheel straight down without scrolling. If nothing registers, check remapping software and try another computer. Clicking and scrolling use separate parts.
Does a touchpad work?
Mostly. Touchpads send left and right clicks and scrolling, but rarely a middle or side button.
Can I use this on a phone?
Only with a mouse connected. A tap counts as a left click, which says nothing about a mouse’s buttons.
